Ray’s Update – Day 18

I want everyone to give Katie a big hand for her making it to day 17 of my Ray Trikes – Trike Across Texas for Diabetes before she had to go back to her boot.  She has been wearing her brace on her foot since we started this quest but had to revert back to her boot last night after a slight slip in the shower.  I am so proud that she made it two and a half weeks in the brace.  She is getting so go…od.    Please let her know how proud you are of her.
We made it to Columbus today from Flatonia.  It was a beautiful day to ride and all went well.  Katie cooked me two meals today, lunch and dinner (with her boot on).  She has been taking very good care of me.  And she has not run me over yet.  She always adds that yet, should I be worried.
We head out for Katy in the morning.  There are only 4 days left.  Please come out to cheer me on if I am going through your town.  Or come ride with me.  You can contact Katie at 210-240-6119 to get a more specific time of arrival on the day we go through your city.  Please let us know ahead of time that you wouild like to meet up with us somewhere and we will try to make it happen.
Please remember to wave and honk if you see me, I love the encouragement.

Ray’s Update – Day 17

Monday, Nov 18th, day 17 of my Ray Trikes – Trike Across Texas for Diabetes, we traveled from Seguin to Flatonia.  A long ride and a little wet.  It was very strange because it was like I was riding through a cloud and it was just putting m…oisture in the air.  I had to stop several times to clean off my glasses.  I finally stopped for a while to let it clear off.
While I was riding along, Katie was hard at work getting me interviews.  She got me an interview at our first stop in Luling with the Chamber of Commerce.  She was very nice.  It is amazing how Katie gets these people to show up out of nowhere.  I am glad she came along.  Then she got me another interview tonight with the newspaper in Columbus, where we are spending the night.  I will be riding to Columbus tomorrow but in order to make the weekly paper, we have to interview today.  So they are coming by later tonight.  Great job Katie.
I go from Flatonia to Columbus tomorrow.  I hate these days where we have to backtrack to start.  But it should be a good ride.  After Columbus, I go to Katy.
It is getting close to the end.  Please keep up your prayers, I need some good weather to end this quest.
Please make a donation if you have not already.  We need all we can get.  www.diabetes.org/trikeacrosstexas
Thank you all for your support, please wave and honk if you see me, I love the encouragement.

Ray’s Update – Day 16

Thank you Cool Cats riding club for riding with me from San Antonio to Seguin on the 16th day of my ride Sunday the 17th of November.  You were a great escort, as you put it.  It was a good 34.6 mile ride on a beautiful day.  The Cool Cats …made it even better.  We had a good time and I believe everyone enjoyed themselves.  They are a fantastic bunch that was kind enough not to make me look too bad.  They slowed down and rode with me.  Thank you all for a wonderful ride, it was my pleasure and honor to ride with you.
Katie used her Facebook connections to get the Seguin newspaper out to greet us upon arrival to get pictures and an interview.  The reporter was extremely nice and says the article should run in the Tuesday paper.
Katie and I head out to Flatonia tomorrow on our next leg of our journey.  It will be a 50+ mile ride tomorrow so I hope the weather is nice.  I thank God for the good weather we have had so far.
We are in the last week of my quest to Ray Trikes – Trike Across Texas for Diabetes and have only raised a little over $13,000 in donations.  Please make your donation today at www.diabetes.org/trikeacrosstexas.  Thank you everyone who has already made their donation.
Please remember to wave and honk if you see me, I love the encouragement.

Ray’s Update – Day 15

It was a wonderful day to be Triking Ray Trikes – Trike Across Texas for Diabetes with my friends and family coming out to support me by cheering and riding with me from Boerne to San Antonio. We had Tour de Cure – San Antonio riders along with old friends and new friends riding today. Old and young, local and far away all came together today to ride for a cure for diabetes. It was great fun and a great group of people. Thank you all for coming out. Even Kristi Lokey Mackey who came all the way from Lufkin to ride because her daughter has diabetes. Now that is a special kind of mom.

We were cheered off by the American Diabetes Association – San Antonio team and other friends. What a send off. Then when we arrived at Gold’s Gym on Prue Rd they were there to cheer us in.

I have mentioned them a couple of times before but I want to let you know that I work with a great group of individuals. Not only are they all covering for me as I take a longer than normal vacation but they turned out today to cheer and support me. I am very blessed to call them my co-workers but even more blessed that I can also call them my friends. Thank you all for coming out and for all the support you have shown me.

I must say that my goal on this adventure is to raise money and awareness for the American Diabetes Association and their fight against diabetes but I have met and found a lot of new and old friends. God continues to bless me everyday with the people He puts in my path. I truly blesses my heart.

I continue on with my Trike Across Texas tomorrow as I head from San Antonio to Seguin. The Cool Cats bike club is going to ride with me tomorrow. They are a great group so it should be a lot of fun. Please wave and honk if you see us, we love the encouragement.

Ray’s Update – Day 14

OK, we made it to Boerne and there were some wonderful friends there to meet us. Thank you all for coming out to greet me, it was very special.

I am glad to be home and able to sleep in my own bed tonight and tomorrow night. So far I have covered 568 miles of my 1000 mile journey and I have 8 days left to go. I thank everyone who has been praying for me and supporting my journey. I feel your encouragement everyday as I ride.

Our coach is fixed and wating when we got here so we switched over everything from the rental RV to the coach. I did not realize how much stuff Katie had packed into that little RV. We are supposed to have more room but I am not sure. But we are prepared for about anything thanks to Katie’s organizational skills.

I am very excited about our ride tomorrow to San Antonio, everyone please come out to cheer us on or ride with us. We will be leaving Boerne at 8:30 from Boerne Middle School South on Cascade Caverns Rd and riding to Gold’s Gym on Prue Rd in San Antonio. We should finish up around 11-11:30. Please bring water, snacks and a way back to Boerne after the ride as it is not a supported ride.

And if you can’t make it, please wave and honk if you see us, we all love the encouragement.

Ray’s Update – Day 13

Day 13, Thursday, Nov 14th comes to an end in Fredericksburg all the way from Mason. Another day in the hills of the hill country. Another day of getting my rear end kicked by the hills of the hill country. After the long ride from Eden to Mason yesterday, todays ride to Fredericksburg was a killer.

The wind was blowing at me again today but it was not as cold as the last couple of days. And tomorrow is suppose to warm up into the 50-60s. That is what I call triking weather.

We got an interview with the Fredericksburg paper today when we got here. It will be in the Wednesday paper. We have done pretty good with media exposure all the way across Texas. I also had a phone interview with the San Antonio Express/News today. I think it will be in the paper tomorrow.

I am very excited about Saturday and our ride from Boerne to Gold’s Gym in San Antonio. We will be leaving Boerne from the Boerne Middle School South on Cascade Caverns Rd (take exit 543) at 8:30am. We will try to arrive at Gold’s Gym around 11-11:30am. Please come out to ride with me or cheer us on. There should be a good group riding on Saturday. Please come with your water and snacks as this is not a supported ride. Also have a way back to Boerne because we do not have a way to take you. We will be going down the west side service road of IH-10 down to 1604, then under 1604 to the Sam’s where we will be taking some side roads to avoid traffic. So if you can only ride part of the way, please pick a spot and let us know you will be joining us.

I look forward to sleeping in my own bed for the 2 days.

Remember to wave and honk if you see me, I love the encouragement.
